A Prayer At Christmas

O God, our Father, we gather tonight, hearts filled with the wonder of Christmas. We remember the night when the heavens opened, and a star shone bright, guiding shepherds and wise men to a humble stable in Bethlehem. We give thanks for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, who came to earth as a baby, born of a virgin, to be our Savior. As the angel proclaimed, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14).

We pray for the peace that surpasses all understanding, the peace that only you can give. We pray for your love to fill our hearts and homes, and for your light to shine brightly in the world. We remember the words of Isaiah, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) We pray for those who are struggling, for those who are lonely, and for those who are in need. May your love and compassion reach them this Christmas season.

We thank you for the gift of your Son, and for the hope that his birth brings to the world. May your presence be with us always, and may your love guide us through the year to come. Amen.
